No, it’s because Mads Pedersen’s squad are cruising through France on a kaleidoscope of colour as their Trek Madone all-round race bikes receive a big makeover to celebrate Trek’s 50th birthday. The bikes are filled with references to the American brand’s history, with the founders’ faces, former Paris-Roubaix winners and state badges on display, in what is certainly the most visually arresting paint job in the peloton.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003ciframe width=\"1019\" height=\"573\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vVRJUEK0_Bk\" title=\"The All-New Trek Madone Gen 8: Our Fastest and Lightest Unite\"\u003e\u003c\/iframe\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe idea for this paintwork stemmed from a request by Trek CEO John Burke, who tasked the product team with creating a custom bike to celebrate Trek’s 50th birthday. Micah Moran, Trek’s Art Director, took on the project with the idea of featuring fifty icons for Trek’s golden jubilee.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e‘It’s about people, product, places and ideas,’ Moran told \u003cem\u003eCyclist\u003c\/em\u003e. ‘I realized that I had to add just the tiniest amount of detail just to get it right. In hindsight, the original was a little mild, where the icons just wrapped the seat tube. But in the end, we went for the boldest expression, the most radical-looking option.
